World Can't Wait, OHIO

World Can't Wait is organizing people living in the United States to take responsibility to stop the whole disastrous course led by the Bush administration. We seek to create a political situation where the Bush administration's program is repudiated, where Bush himself is driven from office, and where the whole direction he has been taking U.S. society is reversed.

Cleveland organizing meeting for October 5
Sunday, October 1
1 pm
C-Space, corner of W. 44th & Clark Ave

What will it take to make October 5 a turning point in history?

This is the final week before Oct 5, a day of mass resistance to the Bush regime.
There are now over 80 cities around the country that will be partof this movement!
See an article on World Can't Wait Cleveland in the Free Times.

The organizing meeting on Sunday will be exactly that...to ORGANIZE for the last days until Oct 5, what the day itself will look like, and what you can do to make this happen! We will have lots of lots of organizing materials that you can take with you--fliers, stickers, posters, banners, and more.

*What schools are planning walkouts? Can you organize at your school fora walkout?
*Who wants to get up Oct 5 banners over freeways all over northeast Ohio?
*Who can take stacks of fliers to colleges, high schools, movies, on buses, trains, barbershops, laundromats, and more?
*Who can send out announcements to all their friends and associates in these last days and get them to the protest? Who wants to do phonebanking, to activate all the people we've met in the last few months?
*Who can help wake people up to the sights and sounds of October 5th? Banner drops, giant public art, poster lines along commute lanes, flyering busses and trains, radio news, soundtrucks, building the heart and determination to make this truly a day of mass political resistance.
*Who wants to organize a car caravan from their suburb or town to the rally downtown on the 5th? Get your friends, people from school, workplace, congregation or neighborhood to meet at a pre-determined time andspot, decorate your cars, and be a traveling advertisement.
*Who can organize a 'specialty' contingent (ie: librarians or a school or club) to march to the rally site together, with their own banners, signs and chants? Or getting people to line E. 9th with signs and noisemakers? Or during the rally to organize others to go out into communities calling on people to 'join us,' bringing back more people for the 4 pm March?
*Who can help set up the rally site and help with set up, transport, and clean up?

WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW THROUGH OCT 5
TO "BRING THIS TO A HALT!"

In 11 days, people in Cleveland will be joining with tens and tens of thousands around the country to "Bring This to a Halt." Many people have newly joined this movement, and are taking part in building for this day of mass resistance against the Bush regime.

Fliers are being distributed by the thousands, hand to hand, stacks left at coffee houses and barber shops, in high schools and galleries, at concerts and on buses; close to 4,000 stickers have already gotten up and out in just a few days. People have heard psa's played on college radio, and our ads have been seen in USA Today and the Free Times. Thousands of dollars have been raised locally to contribute to all this. People are posting Oct 5 announcements on their blogs and websites, and sending announcements to their listserves. Momentum is building towards Oct 5!

We need to keep it up, and expand it geometrically...and you can be part of doing that. Download the fliers and stickers on the website; organize a walkout at your school, post on myspace and your blogs, play the psa's, join a phonebanking team.

We also need to start preparing for THE DAY itself. Many people have come forward to add their voice to the rally (see updated list below). We have all the proper permits from the city. Some of us are already working coordinating and working with the speakers and perfomers; security; insurance; equipment rentals; MC'ing, donations, and more.

If you can let us use your sound equipment, generator, or stage for Oct 5, please contact us immidiately!

There are many crucial tasks that still need to be done to make Oct 5 a success. We need volunteers to take up tasks for the rally and march. Please look over the list below, recruit your friends and associates to help out, and let us know what you can do.

VOLUNTEER, ASAP, SO WE KNOW WHAT WE HAVE. EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT SURE, VOLUNTEER FOR SOMETHING AND WE'LL FIGURE IT OUT TOGETHER.
Contact us at
cleveland@worldcantwait.org

There will be a volunteer coordinator to work with and assist all who volunteer and making sure they know what they'll be doing on Oct 5. ALL VOLUNTEERS are asked to meet
next Sunday Sept 30 at 1 pm at C-Space (W. 44th & Clark Ave.)

If you don't feel you can volunteer at this time, there is a very important way that you can contribute to October 5: we still need to raise thousands of dollars locally to pay for the cost of local advertising, printing materials (fliers, posters, stickers), rental of equipment for the rally (stage, sound, insurance, etc). We need a minimum of $3,000.
Please send checks to: World Can't Wait PO Box 609034 Cleveland OH 44109

VOLUNTEER TASKS: this list in not all inclusive; if there's something else you want to volunteer for, just let us know.

1. Pick up crew: equipment and transport to rally site, ie: sound system, stage, tents, banners, signs, tables, chairs, trash cans, etc.

2. Set up crew: set up the above at the site, including sound, decorating with banners, art displays, etc

3. Equipment: to call around and rent sound system, stage, generator, bullhorns

4. Shoppers: for banner material, umbrellas (parasols for peace), paint, brushes

5. March leaders: making sure signs are distributed before march, knowing the route, leading chants, crime scene tape street theatre as we go around the federal building

6. Clean-up crew: 4-6 garbage cans / heafty bags to site, pick up trash, load into truck at end of day take to landfill/dumpsters

7. Break down crew: stage, sound system, and return to rental places

*Look for our ads in the Free Times!
Sept 13 (this week!), Sept 20, and Sept 27

Massively getting into the media is going to lift up our reach to the millions in this country for October 5; to the people who who are deeply distressed over the direction in which the Bush regime is dragging the country - and the world... All the people who are outraged over the way in which this regime is arrogantly seeking to bludgeon into submission people in the Middle East, and throughout the world, while trampling on the rights of the people in the U.S. itself...

World Can't Wait is planning on publishing a FULL PAGE AD in USA TODAY (the largest circulated daily in the country) on Sept 19, When Bush shows up at the United Nations with his sights set on perpetrating another huge crime-war on Iran-actions and ads must be everywhere.

In Northeast Ohio, we would also like to get ads in the Call & Post, Al Sahafa, Homeless Grapevine, campuses papers, and more.

The ads in the Free Times will cost us $2,000. The cost of the ad in USA Today will be over $104,000.

How much is it worth to drive out the Bush regime?
What can YOU do to raise money?

1) Make a donation today (yes, that means you)
Donate or to World Can't Wait, Cleveland PO Box 609034 Cleveland OH 44109

2) Raise money in the buckets EVERYWHERE that you go: at events, when you distribute fliers, tabling, etc.

3) Write a personal note on why you are funding World Can’t Wait and send this fund appeal and the call for October 5 to your e-list and ask people to send to their list. Or snail mail it to your friends and ask them to send it to their friends.

4) Hold a house party to raise money for World Can’t Wait. A kit for this can be found on the donate page of our web site. Watch the new video of the Bush Crimes Commission session in Berkeley with Daniel Ellsberg, ex British Ambassador Craig Murry, Larry Everest and Janis Karpinski (available on line) and ask your guests to write checks to World Can’t Wait. But don’t stop there! Get everyone involved in taking history into their hands and bring new people into the movement to drive out the Bush Regime — no prior experience required!

5) Hold a car wash or bake sale, and sell posters and get out leaflets as you do so.

6) Canvas your neighborhood with our new leaflet to raise money

7) Write an article or put an ad in your professional or church newsletter, your MySpace page or music zine (the possibilities are endless -- you get the idea).

8) Contact foundations or major funders that you have a personal connection to, and put them in touch with the World Can’t Wait National office at 866-973-4463.

What have you not done that you could to Drive Out the Bush Regime?
Do something that can make a difference to the whole planet and our collective future today.
